Climate Positive Consulting - LCA of a customer product
In late January, Kwame B. Agyemang started his internship at Climate Positive Consulting via Environmental Impacts Academy (EIA). EIA brought together an impressively diverse student group from several countries. Kwame is from Ghana and working on his second masters degree at Linköping University in Sweden. EIA provides training to students in #LCA (life cycle assessment) to assess product carbon footprints through the Earthster platform (courtesy of Gregory Norris and other)

Nestlé - LCA in food manufacturing
Company: Nestlé Nordics is one of the largest food producers in the world that takes sustainability very seriously.
Target: Nestles Team wanted to find out the Environmental Life Cycle Impacts of their factory, Puljonki, in Juuka, Finland.
Case: LCA for the main product of the factory with comparison before and after they had made certain changes to their processes
Results: The LCA study showed interesting results about which materials and processes had the biggest proportional impact on the environmental footprint of the product. The importance of raw material vs. on-site processes was a surprise to some of the involved people.
Action: The study was part of Nestlés ambition to conduct LCA's at all of their factories. While it did not lead to any immediate decisions, the findings brought valuable insight into the drivers of their environmental impacts

Circular solutions unit - LCA for 3D printed furniture
Company: Circular Solutions unit, innovating new materials and solutions for circularity in collaboration between businesses
Target: Compare the Environmental footprint of 3D printed furniture, made from biobased polymers, vs. furniture manufactured in a traditional way.
Case: LCA for a 3D printed chair vs a regular chair.
Results: Not communicated as these are confidential, but the study did give valuable insight into the environmental footprint of the material and process

Kukaco - LCA of a T-shirt
Company: Kukaco is a sustainable textile startup in Helsinki with the mission to bring textile manufacturing back to Finland.
Target: Kukaco wanted to understand their products' Environmental Life Cycle impacts, as sustainability is at the core of their business.
Case: LCA of a T-shirt made from 96% organic cotton and 4% elastane, compared to a T-shirt made from regular cotton.
Results: The LCA study revealed that visibility to their supply chain of organic cotton was not at the level they expected, as their broker of cotton fabric did not reveal the source or environmental data of the material.
Action: As a result of the study, Kukaco decided to change to another supplier of organic cotton.
